Inglourious Basterds

Even though I was in a similar situation as I was when watching Se7en (constantly hiding my face away at the most disgusting scenes) I really enjoyed this film. Normally I don't really have an interest in films set during World War's, but I took a liking to this one. I loved the plot line in this film as it was so untrue to what happened in reality (maybe that's why I liked it) and I loved how the characters were presented. The colours and various shots gave my group some inspiration for our own film, which hopefully we will be able to pull off. The only part of this film I absolutely hated was probably the very detailed and gruesome scenes, which included scalping and batting people to death, but hopefully that's something i'll get used to during this media course.....

Vlog after filming.

This is our vlog taken just after filming for the second time on the underground (and in the freezing cold). We managed to get 3 new time lapse shots, and have had a few more ideas for future filming !

Time Lapse

This is a 'taster' of what the time lapse might look like. Athena, Alice and Josh went out and filmed this, but we're thinking we need to film about 5 more times to get all the outfits we need.

Quite a clever advert ! The part where his clothes change is similar to our idea for our final film.

Se7en

On Wednesday the Media group watched the film 'Se7en' starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. The plot was very interesting, however the film itself was very gruesome ! I admit I'm not very good with gruesome things so i must've missed about half of the film, due to hiding away, but from what I saw I very much liked it.

The acting in this was of course fantastic (as it was Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey and Morgan Freeman), and  put together with the twists, plot line and creepiness made a brilliant thriller.

This is the opening credits to the film, and as the film unraveled the relationship between the opening credits and the plot becomes clear. I guess it's a good way of keeping people on their toes and pointing out things that were in the introduction, and it worked for us !

Filming Underground

This is a clip of a few of group 1's successful shots from our first time filming underground for our 2 minute intro. This clip includes the time lapse shot of Alice, for which she had to stand still for about 10 minutes on the tube ! We managed it, but as it was only a practice shot we will be filming it again. We've included clips of Alice's fantastic acting skills, and some various shots of our shoes ! Enjoy !

This is group one's mini bus vlog, which we filmed on the way to our practice filming 'outing', for our final two minute intro.

Film Plan

So this is group 1's idea of a film plan (completed with illustrations). This is mine, Athena's and Alice's way of writing down our plan and idea for our final film idea. It includes what the different characters will be doing during the film and the idea for audio.

Downton Abbey

Due to Downton Abbey finishing its third series on Sunday, (and having starting to feel withdrawal symptoms), I thought it was appropriate to talk about my favourite TV show.

An odd choice for my favourite TV show for my age, however the story line, characters and costumes make it very entertaining. The establishing shots of the house are my favourite, as you are able to see Downton in all its glory, in full view. Some of the plot lines, I must admit are a bit over the top, however they never fail to entertain.

Series 2 was definitely my favourite series as it was set during the First World War so the story line was full of deaths, scandals and romances. However, Series 3 was quite a disappointment for me, it was pretty...boring. Having to wait almost a year for Series 3 to begin, I had incredibly high expectations for the new series, but other than the unexpected ( and very upsetting ) death of Lady Sybil, I am sad to say that Downton failed to entertain me as much as it did during the last series.

Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys period or costume dramas, and over the top story lines !

Practice Final Film

This is Group One's practice film final ! In order to create this we took shots of scenes we thought would look good in our final film. The different shots in this film include over the shoulder shot, dolly shot and a long shot. In order to create the dolly shot, we managed to find a trolley ! The making of this film was a lot of fun and our group is very pleased with how it turned out. Enjoy !

Ideas for 2 minute intro....

While being underground an idea popped into my head for the filming of our two minute opening, public transport or the underground could be a possible setting for our film. The tube would be great because you would definitely be able to get some good shots !

'The Boat That Rocked' opening scene

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vV2AUmFEKY - Unfortunately Youtube would not let me embed this video, so I had to settle for putting the URL up instead. This is the fantastic opening scene to 'The Boat That Rocked'. I love this intro because its so energetic, and sets the scene and time period with the music and costumes, it also shows all the different kind of people who secretly listened to the radio using split screens. ....The soundtrack to this film is also pretty good.

Vlog number 2 ! In this vlog we talk about the various transitions and edits we used to help create our prelim, and how its given us a taster for the next year.
Group One's first vlog ! In this vlog we talk about the prelim and what was involved.
This is our prelim which we recently recorded. We used verious Oasis songs as our monologue and used them to create a conversation. The amazing acting shown in our prelim was created by Athena and Alice, and I was using the camera to get the different camera shots (over the shoulder, close up). We added in some transitions to help move to the next shot, and also added in one of Oasis' songs to the end of our prelim. Enjoy !

Fantastic introduction to a film ! Love the way they've introduced all the people involved by using sweets, and love the earphone bit, very clever.

A scene from one of my favourite films

Both a handeheld and close up shot are used in this scene to give the audience a taste of how Stew is feeling (hungover). It is also an incredibly funny scene of them trying to remember what happened the night before.

Sunday, 30 September 2012

Absolutely love this advert ! Also love that it's all real and there's no special effects, they went to the extremes to make it !

Wednesday, 26 September 2012

One of my favorite scenes in this film, love the editing and special effects used to create this. So clever !...and confusing.

Favourite Actor

My favourite actor has got to be Johnny Depp. The characters he plays are so unique and different to one another, from Willy Wonka to Jack Sparrow. His unrecognizable in most of them !

Another fantastic John Lewis advert showing various techniques, transitions and edits used to show the young girl grow up into an old woman.
An excellent example of split screen used in this John Lewis advert! The split screen enables the audience to see one story set in two different time periods.
